The Unemployed. — The deputation from the unemployed which waited on the Mayor of Christchurch on Tuesday; again met him yesterday, to hear the reply of the Minister for Labour to the telegram despatched yesterday. The Hon W. P. Beeves expressed the regret felt by the Government that the men were in such a state, and said he had wired to the Labour Bureau for particulars. It was ultimately arranged that the deputation should wait on the Minister upon his arrival in Christchurch and lay their case before him. A second deputation, consisting of men who had returned from work on the West Coast road, subsequently saw the Mayor, and a eimilar arrangement was made in their case. A member of tbe latter deputation complained of the wages made on this work, and eaid that men who came from Kumara had been paid at a higher rate than those from Christchurch. He slid he had spoken to the agent for the Bureau at Christchurch, who had requested him to keep quiet about it. The Eden George Company, Limited, are now producing far superior Opals than hitherto. Mr Binns, who has just arrived from Welingtor, wil ' teke direct'charge of the Studio and Workrooms, so that the delay which has occurred in the completion of orders will shortly disappear, and only Cabinets and Opole showing tpobc superior work, niatisbiu will frs sulowed to eavo tho Studio.
