The Otsgo Trades Council has informed the Wellington Council that the existence of sweating in the shirt-making trade here has been brought under its notice, and asking that action be taken by the local Council enquiring into the matter. DUNEDIN, June 9. The Hon R. J. Seddon replies to Mr Pinkerton respecting the unemployed, that he cannot do much till Parliament authorises him, but that he will do all he possibly can. The Colonial Treasurer was interviewed on the subject last night when passing through to the Bluff, and said that he would wire to the Premier again. Sixty men met in the Town Hall to-day, and saw Mr Hutchinson, who promised to interview the Labour Bureau. Mr Farnie says that he cannot do anything without further instructions from Wellington. The Otago Trades Council has asked for information concerning the propose State tailoring establishment, and has declared that no sweating exists in any factory in Dunedin.
