In the House of Lords, Lord ■> Otialow asked for a return showing •tbe Colonial Bills which had been vetoed', and naming the principles in them which were rejected but afterwards legalised. A promise was given that the return would be f nrnished. In the House of Commons, Sir H. Meyaey Thompson, . the member for Wand B worth, moved a resolution ,in favour of bimetalism. Mr B. B. Beckett, the member for Whitby, moved a negative amendment, which was carried by 229 to 148. Mr Gladstone, who took part in the debate, said tbe Government had no scheme for remedying the divergence 1 in value of gold and silver. Mr BaKour, Mr Goschen and Sir Henry _ James voted with the minority, while "Mr Chamberlain, Imrd Churchill and the members of the anti-Parnellite ' section supported the amendment.
