Meeting of the Executive.

A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Queensland Relief Fund was held I this morning; the Mayor of Chrißtchurch [ in the chair, I j A letter was received from the Church- ! i wardens of Avonside, stating that the | whole of the offertories on Sunday next would be devoted to the fund. Mr E. S. Harley, on behalf of the subcommittee appointed to purchase produce, ; &c, -reported that £98 17s 2d had been j Bpent in purchasing blankets and under- | clothing from the Kaiapoi Woollen Com- | pany, whioh had supplied the goods at , prime cost. The goods obtained consisted .of 20 dozen men's half-hose, 6 dozen ; flannel undershirts, 48 pair of blankets, 4 j bolts of white flannel, 10 sac suits, 24 boys' j suits, and 24 pairs boys' knickerbockers. j The sub-Committee had also procured 20 j tons of flour, 2 tons of oatmeal and 9 dozen i pairs of boots. ; | The action of the Committee was j approved. ( It was decided to purchase ten additional ; tons of flour. j Mr Harley reported having received a ; donation of a sack of flour from Mr T. ; Hide, of Swannanoa. It was resolved— "That the Central Fund list close on Saturday, March 11, I and that thoße holding subscription lists be [ requested to send them in by that date." ! It was agreed to accept the offer of Mr ; Sandford, M.H.E., to arrange for collectors [ to take charge of collection boxes to be ; put in public places on Saturday next. } The Mayor of St Albans reported that i he had arranged for the use of Lancaster Park for "Queensland Thursday." Mr G. E. Hart reported that the Gas ; Company had promised to give the gas for •Mb lecture in the Tuam street Hall on ; Monday night, and for the rehearsal on j < Saturday night, free of cost. I The offer was accepted with thanks. i ; The Mayor of St Albans moved—" That | the Mayor be requested to ask the citizens jto close their places of business at one I o'clock on Thursday, March 9, and also to I communicate with the Government, the ; Employers' Association, the Law Society and the Banks with reference to closing." Mr G. B. Hart seconded the motion, which was carried netn. eon. Mr Hart gave notice of the following motion for next meeting :— " That this Committee adopt the principle of utilising the whole of the funds at their disposal for the purchase of clothing and produce." It was reported that the subscriptions received since the previous day amounted tojes2 4s4d. The Committee then adjourned to 11 a.m. next day. ' At a meeting of the Pioneer Lodge, U.A.0.D., held on Mondaj night, the sum of £5 5s waß voted to the Queensland relief fund, the sum to be expended in food jr clothing. It is also proposed to devote to the same laudable object a portion of the proceeds of the late annual gala. ! A meeting of the Committe that so successfully carried out the Promenade Concert at Ash burton last week was held at the Borough Counoil Chambers ;on Monday evening, when a very satisfactory report was presented by the Hon Secretary, Mr Peter Williams. The concert bad netted the very substantial sum of £4/6 10a, I and had been a complete success in every way. The Treasurer, MrW. H. Btlle, handed over a cheque for that amount to the Chairman, Mr C. A. Purnell, for the general relief fund. A meeting of the General Belief Fund Committee was then held. The Mayor's absence was apologised for, and Mr Purnsll presided. It was reported that the Mayor had received subscription's amounting to £120. Subscription lists were directed to be sent to the Chair* men of Road Boards in the County. ; Mr D. Thomas expressed his willingness to receive and cell all sorts of farm produce sent to Tattersall's on Saturday. ' It was decided to publish in the local papers a list of subscribers. The Bev Mr Hamilton and Messrs H. K. Jones, J. C. Duncan and John On volunteered to .attend , the market on Tuesday with subscription lists. It is satisfactory to be able to note that the tickets, for the lecture to be given in the Tuam Street Hall, in aid of the, fund, by Mr G. B. Hart, on Monday, are going off rapidly. The seat plan will be opened at Messrs Milner and Thompson's shortly, so that holders of two shilling tickets will be able to reserve their seats. Lantern slides, of the very interesting series of photographs, to be shown by Mr Seager, in illustration of the lecture, are in course of preparation. The Mayor of Chriatchurch and MrW. B.
