For only one of • the first thirteen licenses •offered was there any competition, and in that case, for two sections in the Crookston district, submitted at an upset rental ■ol'£7, there was spirited bidding till they were knocked down at £20. For three licenses there was no offer; and the balance was sold at the upset. For one of the 'Silver Peak sections -£51 -were obtained, an advance of i528 on the upset. For the other, in the same district, the bidding rose -quickly from £55 to JEB2; and for part of the Benmore run, it started at 482Q, a and £81 were obtained.
