[Per Pbsbs Absociatioh.l , - i AUCKLAND, Ebb. 26. When the mail steamer Alameda was outside the harbour thiß morning, on her way to San Franoisco, ehe collided with a small coastal schooner; the Queen, but there was no serious damage to either vessel. " : ■'..' i ; - WELLINGTON, Pbb. 26. A sad boating accident happened in the harbour some time last night or yesterday afternoon. H. Osborne, portmanteau manufacturer, Lambton quay;' his' foreman, Burgess; and W. Burteau, a etoreman in Sargood and Son's, hired, a plea-sure-boat to proceed to Soamea' Island, where Osborne, who was a dog-fancier, had several animals in quarantine. They experienced a light southerly breeze in the run across, but before the party left on the return voyage at 'five o'clock the wind had freshened, and it inoreased as the day wore on. The boat not returning enquiries were instituted, and as the night was boisterous it was feared that a mishap had occurred. This morning the constable atPetone fouad the boat and the body of Burgesa on the beach. The body was entangled. among the ropes, and; there ia no doubt that the, three men have perished.'. The last seen of the boat from Soamea' Island was when ;< standing towards Lowry Bay under sail, apparently endeavouring to get back under canvas. It is thought that she was struck by a squall, and being an open boat, that she then filled. Osborne was a married man with no family. BurgeßS, who arrived from Melbourne only two months ago, leaves a wife | and four young ohildren. Burteau also was a married man with four ohildren under five years of age. Burteau wa3 regarded as one of the most experienced yachtsmen in the harbour.
