CHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Before E. Weßtenra and J. Hamilton, EBqB.) Drunkenness.— Annie Fraser was fined 5a and costs, in default twenty-four hours imprisonment. Stealing Apples. — Charles Hanwell (13) and William Hanwell (9) were charged with stealing, on Feb. 16, three apples, valued Id, the property of Robert Coutes, of May's road, Papanui. Mr Andrews appeared for the boys. The prosecutor said he had missed a large qnaotity of fruit from his garden this season, and on Thursday last he saw three boys in his orchard mth appleß in their possession. Recognised the two accused, but could not pay who the third boy v/as. His garden had been robbed every season for years paßt. Constable Hayes said the younger boy admitted stealing the appleß, and the elder boy admitted being in the ; garden, but said he did not take any I apples. The Beach said the case had been proved, but as this was a first offence the boys would be allowed to go. If they came before, the Court, again they would be severely punished. Indecent Conduct. — John Slattery •alias Slater, and Ellen Parkinson olios Danby, two very old offenders, were charged with indecency. They pleaded "Not guilty." Deteotiveß Neill and Marsack proved the offence, and the accused were sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. (Before R. Beetham, Esq., R.M., and E. Westenra, Esq.) Civil Cases. — Judgment with coats was given in the following cases in which the defendants did not appear :— Spackman v. J. Fisk, Claim £17 16s; Baynes Bros. v. J. Armfield, claim 16a<10d; same v. H. Smith, claim £2 Os 6d ; Canterbury College v. J. Spring, claim .£lO 8b 6rf.— Staniland v! Mark, claim £1. Defendant was engaged through plaintiff as night porter at the Metropolitan Hotel, and afterwards as day porter at the Empire. The defendant thought that £1 fee was too much, and, by consent, judgment was given for 15b and costs. .
