PICNIC.

The employees in the Sales Department of the Christchurch warehouse of the Drapery Importing Company held their annual picnic on Thursday at the grounds of Major Edmundson. During the day Mr B. Hallenstein, Chairman of Directors of the Drapery Importing Company, who, with Mrs and Mias Hallenstein, is on his way to Europe, visited the grounds. He was welcomed by Mr E. C. Brown, the manager of the Christchuroh warehouse, who, on behalf of the staff, wished him God-speed on hia journey, and a safe return to the Colony. Mr Hallenstein, in replying, said :— Mr Brown, ladies and gentlemen, — I thank you for your good wishes towards us; they, will cheer ub on our way, and on behalf of my wife and daughter I thank you. Last year we happened to arrive here on a similar occasion to this, and to-day we have happened to arrive here again. It seems as if circumstances favour our heart's desire, for both to me and my wife it is a genuine pleasure to be amongst you on such a joyous and festive occasion. If we are in New Zealand next year we shall not leave it to chance, but endeavour to be amongst you. You are aware that we are on a trip to the Home country. We intend re-visit-ing many beautiful lands, but none more fair or beautiful than New Zealand. Besides, excepting one daughter, we leave behind us our children and grandchildren and many friends, amongst whom I include you. All are magnets that will draw us back to New Zealand. In bidding you good-bye, I hope, pleaee God, that we may meet again in health and happiness. Wo must now take our departure to rejoin our ship, and again I bid you farewell, and may we all meet again.
