Glenboy School Committee. — At a special meeting of the Glenroy School Committee, it was decided to vote for Messrs T. W. Adams, Munninga and Peryman as members of the Education Board. Watbb Polo Championship.— The following have been selected for the two teamß to represent the Ea.st Christchurch Club in the polo championship of New Zealand, to be held in the Gloucester street bath on Saturday next : — Andrews, Johnston, Stringer, Murphy, Roper, Partridge and Garrick ; Duncan, Wharton, Le Mercier, Truscott, Ebert, Hobba and Dunnage. Emergencies: Wathew, East, Duncan and Bultivant. Criminal Sessions. — The quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court were opened yesterday before his Honor Mr Justice DennistOn. Frederick Cooper was sentenced to three years' penal servitude on a charge of forgery. Thomas Downs was acquitted on a charge of burglary, on which Henry Jensen was convicted and remanded for the report of the probation officer. Charles Allen pleaded " Guilty," and wa9 sentenced to two years' imprisonment for an indecent assault. Samuel Thompson was acquitted on the charge of killing a sheep with intent to steal the carcase. The Grand Jury brought in "No bill " in the case of Margaret Isles, assault with intent to dojbodily harm, and in two charges of larceny and one of embezzlement preferred againßt G. S. Hickman. They brought in a true bill against hip in one charge of embezzling £2 7s, and in the caße of Elizabeth Whittel alias Taylor for larceny. Richmond Amatetjb Swimming Cltjb. — A general meeting of the members of the Richmond Amateur Swimming Club was held in the schoolroom last night. There was a very good attendance of members, over fifty being present. Mr 3. Abercrombie (Vice-President) waa voted to the chair. The Chairman announced that the President, Mr E. C. Bishop, intended giving two guineas to the prize fund. The announcement was received with applause, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bishop for his gift. The Hon Secretary, Mr G. Milne, read the report of the Sub-Committee appointed to interview the Bath Committee with regard to terms for the use of the bath. The report was very satisfactory, and on the motion of Mr Milne, seconded by Mr C. Bradford, it was unanimously adopted. The Secretary read a letter from his Worship the Mayor of Chrißtchuroh, stating that he would be very pleased to accept office as a Vice-President of the Club. The Secretary read the rules drafted by the Committee. They were taken seriatim, and several amendments were effected. On the motion of Mr C. J. Styche, seconded by Mr H. E. E. Hiorns, Mr F. J. Craddock was elected captain pro tern. On the motion of Mr G. Milne, seconded by Mr A. P. Gibson, Mr Harry Thompson, of the Pioneer Bicycle Club, was elected DeputyCaptain. A large amount of unimportant business was transacted. A hearty vote of thanks to the Chairman and Messrs C. S. Howard and J. A. Flesher terminated the meeting. A meeting of the Committee was held prior to the general meeting; present—Mr V. J. Craddopk (in the chair) and Messrs H. E. E. Hiorns, A. P. Gibson, ■ C. Bradford, C. J. Styche (Hon Treasurer), I and G. Milne (Hon Secretary). Several minor matters were disposed of, and a number of members were elected.

Timabtt Habbottr Boabd.— The members ; of the new Timaru Harbour Board held an informal meeting yesterday, their first legal meeting being fixed by statute for Feb. 28. All the members were present except Mr Manchester. After an abortive motion to fill the chair pro tern, the j member proposed declining the duty, the ■■ Secretary occupied the chair for the ; meeting. The members discussed the ! finances, the amount of harbour rate necessary for the current year, and the ■ present position of the tug-dredge contract. ABHBTTETOK AmATEUB SWIMMING CITJB. —The following are the handicaps for the Aehburton Amateur Swimming Club's final 50yds Handicap, to be swum at the Ashburton swimming baths on Wednesday evening -.—First heat: T. The final will be swum at 5.50 p.m. Service of Song.— A service of song, entitled " The Bow of Promise," was given on Friday evening by the Church of Christ choir, at the entertainment given by the Flower of Woolston Lodge, Woolaton. Mr Lane conducted, and Miss L. Marriner presided at the organ. The connective readings were given by Bro. T. G. Dyson, P.D.G.C.T. During an interval refreshments were supplied, after which songs were given by Miss Manifold and Messrs M'Diarmid, Hawkins and Young. Mr A. C. Wood gave a short address, and votes of thanks brought an enjoyable evening to a close. N Battery.— The members of the N Battery Artillery fired for prizes on Thursday afternoon, when the competitors were divided into three classes. In the first class Sergeant-Major Arnold, with a score of 61, took Dr Pairman's prize, while Gunner Schollar, with a score of 55 got second prize. In the second class, Gunner Foulds, with a soore of 44, took Messrs ABhby, Bergh and Co/s prize, Sergeant Suter getting Mr W. G. Shepheard's second prize with 41. Gunner Wilson took Mr Palmer's prize in the third class with 37, Gunner Anderson getting second with 33. The Battery has a large number of prizes, which will be offered for competition. Richmond Fbee Methodist Church. — The annual harvest festival in connection with the Richmond United Methodist Free Church was commenced on Sunday. The church had been very effectively decorated for the occasion with pot-plants, flowers, evergreens, wheat and various kinds of fruit and vegetables.. The Rer A. Peters, of Wellington, preached at both morning and evening services to very good congregations. In the afternoon a service of song, entitled "Squire Gregory's Harvest Thanksgiving/ composed by Mr S. Milea, a member of the church, was given in a very creditable manner by the church ohoir under the leadership of Mr G. Simpson. Yesterday evening the annual tea meeting was held in the schoolroom adjoining the church. A large number sat down to an excellent tea, the tables being presided over by Mesdames Hughes, Miles, Athea, Robinson, Flesher, Myers, Wilson and Sheppard, After tea the fruit j and vegetables used for decorating the church were disposed of with satisfactory results. Queensland Belief Fund Entertainment.—The programme for the popular entertainment at popular prices, to be given in the Theatre Royal on Thursday evening, is now definitely arranged. The vocalists will include Miss M. Bell, Mrs Wilson and Meesra Appleby, Millar and , Weir; whilst Miss Yartha and Mr Watkins will render effective aid at the pianoforte. In addition to the concert programme that is to . constitute the first portion of the entertainment, " Nazareth," " The Life Boat " and other songs will be interspersed in the second half, and will be illustrated by Mr Crook with some magnificent pictures. It is of interest to , mention the fact that for this entertainment Mr Crook has made a careful selection from his immense collection of photographic lantern slides, and that he will , use the oxy-ether light, and an apparatus specially devised for producing exquisite effects. The prices for admission, 3s, Zs and Is, will enable all classes of the community to purchase tickets, and, since the expenses incurred in producing the entertainment will be exceedingly small, practically the whole of the proceeds will go to the sufferers by the floodß. , Oddfellowshib. — - The regular fort-. , nightly meeting of. the Loyal Addirigton Lodge was held on Monday evening, when, there was a good attendance of members. The Sick Visitors reported that four members of the Lodge were on the sick list, and regret was expressed at the seriousness of their illness. The sick pay, amounting to JBI6 3b Bd, was passed for payment. A letter of recommendation was received ou behalf of a brother from the New South Wales Lodge. Jt was decided that the members of the Lodge i should meet at the Oddfellows' Chambers on Tuesday evening to discusß what steps should be taken by the Executive of the various Friendly Societies of Christchurch in the matter of alleviating the distress . caused by the floods in Queensland. Bro . Eden George gave a Bhort resumi of the 1 business which had been transacted in i connection with the Queensland relief j i fund. It was announced that the trophy i presented to the Morris-tube class would i > be shot for on Wednesday, March 1, and • each Wednesday till August 31. It was . resolved to hold a summoned meeting on . Monday, March 6, to receive the Auditor's . report and the balance-sheet, and to elect 1 delegates for the annual district meeting. The N.G. of the City Lodge returned . thanks on behalf of the third sentiment. Bro Asquith, of the New South Wales Lodge, also returned thanks on behalf of , the visitors. One proposition was received fora new member. Ratepayers' Meeting. — A meeting of ratepayers of the North Opawa ward of the Heathcote district was held last night iv the Road Board office, Ferry road, to consider the proposed annexation of a part of the ward to the . proposed Woolston borough. There was a fair gathering, a number of those present residing in the ABhbourne ward. Mr A. M. OHivier took the ohair, and raised the question as to whether any but ratepayers of the North Opawa ward should be admitted to the meeting, and requested all that did not belong to the North Opawa district to retire. This led to considerable discussion, and Mr Hopkins moved— "That the Chairman leave the chair, and that the meeting appoint its own chairman." Mr Pierce seconded the motion. Mr March suggested that the voting should be confined to ratepayers of the district. It was eventually agreed that only ratepayers should vote or speak. Mr Hopkins compared the cost of management in Woolston with Heathcote, and complained that many of the ratepayers had not had an opportunity of signing the petition. Mr Beere asked who were agairmt the petition, and the Chairman in reply said that all the Board were, except Mr Beere and Dr Hunt. After Mr Pearce had spoken, Mr March ! moved and Mr M'Connell seconded. — j " That the ratepayera of the North Opawa ward here present oppose the annexation of the ward, or any part of it, to the proposed Woolston borough." Mr Hopkins, Mr Aylward, Mr F. W. Henly and Mr J. Clarke having addressed the meeting, the motion was carried, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedinge.
