In the course of some remarks he intimated that it was likely that public subscriptions would be raised to carry out protective works at the breakwater; also, that the plant not required should foe sold to raise funds to improve the harbour. . The Hon W. Rolleston is on a visit to ! New Plymouth. He goea by steamer tonight to Auckland. , The body of the lad Wood, who on Sunday morning waa washed out to sea whilst bathing from the beach at Omata, has not been recovered. Particulars now to hand state that he was a good swimmer, but got where there was a strong current, which carried him out to eea in sight of! his horrified companions, who were unable to render any assistance.
