A meeting of the Executive Committee [>f the Belief Fund was held in the Council Chambers this morning. Tho Chairman pointed out that the Orange Lodge and others were sending round canvassers bo shopkeepers and the public to collect funds, and that when those collpcting for the general fund called they were told' that the persons called on had already subscribed. This interfered with the general fond, although thespecial lists appeared larger in proportion. It was resolved to send lists to all the organisations, and to request that all subscriptions should be sent to one fund. The Mayor undertook to telegraph to the Hon W. P. Beeves asking if the time could be extended for produce, &c., to be carried'frea of freight. The General Government had sent such produce by the Hauroto, but she has now left. Mr Harley said that the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company would give free storage for any produce sent' by farmers for shipment.
