Rescued from Drowning.
5 « - t j This morning, at New Brighton, a lady j i wearing a Salvation Army bonnet, and c supposed to be a Mrs Smith, walked into i the sea with all her clothes on, and carry- > ing an umbrella. When at a depth of i■' about two feet she lay down on her back, i and would, no doubt, have been drowned 3 but for the assistance of two young ladies, who went to her rescue. They - were unable to drag her" out of 3 the water until Mr Searle joined them, f The caretaker at the pier had his attention I drawn to the matter, and hastened to the | 3 party, carrying with him the directions for t saving persons apparently drowned. Dr i Hunt was sent for, and some brandy was , procured. A lady, who evidently knew what a was the proper course of treatment, had Mrs t Smith removed to the nearest house, and i Dr Hunt was promptly in attendance. When 1 this information was sent from New Brighton Mrs Smith was breathing well, i though still unconscious.
