- + BRISBANE, AGAIN CUT OFF. ' [Special to Pbhbs Association]. SYDNEY, Feb. 17. Telegraphic communication . with Brisbane is again interrupted. The Barwon and Namoi rivers are in heavy flood, and the Clarence is rising with alarming rapidity. Wide stretches of agricultural land are inundated, and many farmers are ruined. A portion of Lismore is under water. .
[Pbb Pbksb Association.] ; AUCKLAND^ Feb. 17. The Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Dr Luok, intends to have the collection in the churches in his diocese on Sunday devoted to the Queensland relief fund. The fund colleoted in the. city up to the present time amounts to about .£BBO. The subscriptions for the Queensland disaster fund now amount to over *filooo. The Auckland Trotting Club contributed twenty guineas this afternoon to the fund. GISBOBNE, Sbb. 17. The sum of £60 has. been collected in Gisborne and cabled to Brisbane. PALMERSTON NORTH, Feb. 17. The Hon R. 3. Seddon has received, the following wire from Mr Mills, Manager of the Union Steamship Company, Dunedin : — "I have : communicated !,-with ; Union Steamship Company and Howard, and Son, who trade from Brisbane and Sydney, and they have kindly offered, to convey, free of charge, from Sydney to Brisbane any gifts of food supplies sent from New Zealand." }■ GRETMOUTH, Fbb* 17. At a public meeting to-night, called by the Mayor to organise relief for the Queensland sufferers, collectors were appointed for the different wards to make a house to house canyaßs for the fund. Subscriptions were started in the room. The Mayor headed the list with five guineas, and a considerable sum was colleoted. Collections will be taken up to-morrow. DUNEDIN. Feb. 17. The Queensland Flood Relief Fund Committee resolved this afternoon to send pro* duoe to the value of .6250 by the Hauroto to-morrow. " ' INVERCARGILL, Feb. 17. . A meeting held in the. municipal offices to-night to. take steps to organise a canvass for 'subscriptions for the Queensland flood sufferers was attended by about, thirty perBons. The weather has been extremely unseasonable for the past threp days, and apologies for. non-attendance were numerous. Over JBSO was sent in and subscribed in the room, and district canvassers were appointed. The Hon J. G. Ward sent five guineas, and the Farmers' Association ten guineas. ' .
