The President's message to the Senate, advising the annexation of Hawaii, describes the monarchy of the islands as effete, making the country a prey to designing persons. It would be undesirable, if not impossible to. res fore it, and it is essential that no ot her Power shall annex the islands, as such an. event would be inconsistent with theVafety of the United States and the peace of the world. The President points out that there haß been no protest against annexation by the. United States, and denies that the latter had any hand in the overthrow of the Queen. A President would ba appointed with power of veto iv matters affecting foreign and commercial relations. They would coot.iuue to prevent the influx of Chinese into the country. The United States wou'd take over the debt, and pay the Queen 20,000 dollars and her niece 150,000. Sugar ,- products would not receive a bounty unless Congress passed a special meaeuro authorising it.
