THE GOVERNOR'S ARRIVAL.
His Excellency Lord Glasgow, Lady Glasgow, and suite arrived at Lyttelton this afternoon just in time to catch the 2 p.m. train for Christchurch. A large crowd assembled on the wharf, and as the Takapuna drew alongside the Mayor of Lyttelton and the Chairman of the Harbour Board stepped aboard, and each presented an address. Directly his Excellency appeared on deck hearty cheers were given by the assemblage. Owing to the uncertainty of the time of arrival, only a moderate number were afc the Christchurch railway
, station when the Vice-Regal party arrived accompanied by the Hon W. P. Reeves am Mr J. Joyce, M.H.R. His Wot ship the Mayo: . was there, accompanied by Mr A. Boyle i waiting to receive his Excellency. As Lore and Lady Glasgow entered the carriagi r i three hearty cheers were given for each j ! and the party theu proceeded direct to Mi 3 ! A. Boyle's house at Riccarton, where hif j Excellency will reside during his visit t< , Christchurch. The reception ceremonies , : take place to - morrow in Cathedral 3 i square.
