THE VOLUNTEERS.

An inspection parade of the Canterbury Mounted Eiflea took place in Hagley Park ■ yesterday evening, when thirty-two members of the corps were present, under Lieutenant Palaixet. < Tlig corpa was inspected by Major Slater, ' and wag put through company drill, which was satisfactorily done. The first daylight parade of the Eifle • Companies and Garrison Band took place yesterday evening, and passed off satis- ] factorily. There was a good muster, and the ■ work was creditably done. The following was the strength, of the various corps :— i City Guards, Captain Massey, 33 ; College Eifles, Colour-Sergeant Smith, 42 ; Christchurch Eifles, Captain Andrews, 37; A. 1 Company, Captain Whiteside, 46; Scottish Bifles, Lieutenant Bobs, 30; Bichmond Biflee, Captain Bowron, 26 ; Garrison Band, ■ Bandmaster Searell, 23. Total 237. Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon wbb in command. Major Francis was present, and ■ Lieutenant Day acted as Adjutant. The corps fell in on the parade ground, and marched to Hagley Park, where over an hoar was .pent in battalion drill. The : movements were done very satisfactorily. After the drill the companies, headed by the Band and the Pipers of the Scottish i Bifies, marched through the town to the drillshed, where Colonel Gordon expressed his satisfaction with the manner in which the work had been done, and the parade was dismissed. The battalion parade ordered for Saturday next ia cancelled. It is purposed to hold a battalion parade in lieu thereof on Saturday, Nov. 12. In future officers of all arms are to wear brown leather gloves in drill and field day order. | "
