The Akaeoa Coaches. —An addition which will meet with the appreciation of travellers has been made to the line of coaches in use between Akaroa and the railway, by Mr S. Lee, the proprietor. Mr Lee gave Messrs Brabner and Sons an order to provide one of the best thorough-brace twelve-passenger coaches it was possible to make, and the builders have given him every poasible satisfaction. Everything in connection with the coach is as perfect as hands can make it. The framework is of the beet-seasoned American timber, and the wheels are made extra strong, to withstand the heavy strain of the brake which is so constantly used on the hilly road. This brake has a double-purchase, and acts with, precision. An improved style of! thorough-brace is employed, and by its means rocking is prevented, and the pitching is reduced to a minimum, while the greatest strength is obtained through the leathers overlapping the bar of the undergear, instead of hanging from a staple, as is usually the case. The cover of the coach is of handsomely-marked cedar, very light, but strongly braced, end the curtains are of the best American duck, and make the coach perfectly weathertight. Instead of the usual curtain in lieu of a doorway there are two nicely fitted doors, with ornamental handles and convenient steps, by which passengers may mount and alight without, as is so frequently the case in such conveyances, coming in contact with the wheels. The inside is handsomely furnished with red pluali cushions on good, wide comfortable Beats, and invalids may ride with perfect comfort over the roughest roads. The coach provides comfortable Beating accommodation for six inside and six outside passengers, besides having a good-sized boot for mails, &c, and a spacious rack at the back for luggage. The painting and finishing leave nothing to be desired; the wheels are of American buff colour, and the body is a bright vermillion, the panels bearing Mr Lee's monogram very artia- • tically ingrained in them. jl
