KILLED ON THE RAILWAY.
A lad named Thomas "William White, aged fifteen, engaged aa ames.enger for this office between Chriatehurch and Bangiora, met with his death while travelling on the north train, which left Addington at 5.5 pan. yesterday. White'a duty waß to collect newspaper despatches atthe various stations and deliver them at the offics on the return of the train, bat he was permitted to Bell the evening papera en route. It is -surmised that a caution not to pass from one carriage to another while the train was in motion waa unheeded, as shortly after the train had passed the Addington workshops, where there is a very sharp curve, Mr A. "W. Smith, foreman of the fitting shops, heard a moaning sound, and, looking on the line, saw the boy lying between the rails. Mr Smith at once obtained assistance, and on examination of the lad it was found that one of hia legs was completely crußhed, and that the wheels of the train must have gone over the pelvis, which was in a shockingly mutilated condition. With the Ambulance stretcher the boy was conveyed to the Chrißtchurch Hospital, "but he died very soon after he wa3 admitted. He was conscious during hiß removal to the Hospital, but did not explain how the accident bad occurred. The lad is a son of Mr White, greengrocer, of Durham street. An inquest will ba held.
