At the top turn, Magpie closed on Captain Abram and securing the inside running held a slight lead as the straight was entered, and increasing his advantage won by a couple of lengths; Iroquois half a length behind the second. Passing the stand the field were in a cluster, Von Tempsky having slightly the best of it. Racing along the back of the course Von Tempsky and Crown Jewel singled themselves out, and were neck and neck at the home turn. A fine race resulted in Crown Jewel gaining the verdict by half a length. Harkaway, who came with a rattle in the last furlong, three lengths away third. Time— 2min 22f sec; Dividend £5 2s. HACK HURDLE RACE, of 15 sots. For horees that have never won public money over hardies or steeplechase courses. Weight not less than 10.<t. One mile and a half. 51 Mr C. Turning into the straight Flatcatcher ran off the course, and got rid of his rider, the saddle turning. Passing the stand Regalia was in front, with Mrs Mullaney close up ; Magpie third, with Stella tailing off. At the back of the course Mrs Mullaney assumed the lead, but Regalia and Magpie closed up at the last bend. A slashing struggle up the straight between Mrs Mullaney and Magpie resulted in a neck victory for the latter, Regalia, close up, third. Time— Bmin Ssec. Dividend JBl l2s.
