Webtland Education Board. — At the meeting of this Board last night, Mr John Gammell, at present headmaster of the High School, was appointed Secretary and Inspector. Pabmambntaby.— The Hon J. G. Ward and Messrs Tanner, M'lntosh and HallJones, M.H.R/s, were passengers by the steamer Botorua, which lef b Lyttelton for Wellington last night.

Obatobio in the Cathkdeal.— Stainer's cantata "The Daughter of Jairuß," and his Jubilee anthem, " Lord, Thou art God," was rehearsed in the Cathedral last night, and a very enjoyable performance may be looked forward to this evening. The doors of the Cathedral will be open at a quarter past seven.

Timabu Bbbakwatbr. — During the heavy weather that prevailed lately, the gas pipe which supplies the light at the northern end of the Timara breakwater was carried away. Yesterday Mr Marchant, with the assistance of his staff, and at some personal risk, fixed a kerosene light to temporarily Bupply the place of the gas. Access to Theatbbs.— Mr W. A. Jinkins, advance agent to the phonograph, has been figuring at the Invercargill Police Court as defendant. A charge of assault was dismissed, but for refusing to admit Detective Maddern he was fined £1 and costs. It is Btated that the decision will be appealed against, as it is alleged the theatre is licensed under the provisions of the "Municipal Corporations Act, 1886," which did not give a constable right of free access to a theatre.
