| Annual Meeting. j The annual meeting of subscribers to j the Rangiora Literary Institute was held I laßb evening. There was a fair attendance. Mr G. Buckham presided, and, being Treasurer, submitted the balancesheet, which showed receipts £146 83, the principal items being rent of hall £49 19a 6d, sale of old piano , .£25, loan £30, annual subscriptions ; .£3l 10a, quarterly ditto .£5 is 6d. The expenditure was stated to be £142 93, including wages £37 7s 3d, papers £16 93 6d, new piano £60 7s Gd, lighting and firing £11 ss, insurance £13 2a Gd. The assets , were reported to be £7 5s and liabilities ; £50 14s 6d. I The Chairman commented at considerable length on the statement, pointing out that a new piano for the hall had been procured during the year ; and also that the receipts from the hall were £24 11s 6d less than the previous year. Taking everything into consideration he thought that the financial position was satisfactory. The balance-sheet was adopted. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to the President, Secretary and outgoing Committee. The following were elected a Committee for the ensuing year : — Messrs B. Evans, A. Templer, E. E. Good, L. Hunnibell, J. B. Wilson, E. Ball, G. Shorland, W. Blackett, C. I. Jennings, G. Buckham, T. Keir, and the Eev P. E. Monro. The Chairman referred to the death of Mr J. Youngman, who faithfully discharged the duties of librarian for a number of years ; and moved that a letter of sympathy should be forwarded to his widow. This [was seconded by Mr B. Ball and carried. This concluded the business of the general meeting. The Committee then held a meeting, at which all the members were present except the Eev P. E. Monro.
Mr G. Buckham was unanimously reelected President and Treasurer, and Mr C. I. Jennings Hon Secretary. Mr T. Keir, on behalf of the Literary Debating Society, offered to co-operate in arranging for a lecture to be given by Professor Bickerton early next month. The offer was accepted. A vote of thankß was then passed to the Chairman, and the meeting terminated.
