The Times denies the report that the Banks have been asked to guarantee another important firm •which ia Baid to be in a position similar to that of the BaringsIt is probable that the Bank rate of discount will be reduced to 4> per cent on Thursday. Six great joint stock Banks have agreed not to discount bills except for their regular customers at less than 3| per cent for the present ; the other Banks which were represented at a meeting with the Directors of the Bank of England yesterday, have requested time to consider the action they will take with reference to discount rules. The total quantity of -wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,328,000 quarters and for the Continent 2,000,000 quarters. Shares in the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, £2 15s ; Eob6rt Campbell and Co., <£5 5s ; Dalgety and Co., £7.
