♦ Entertainment.— We are requested to point out that the dramatic entertainment at Hororata takes place on Thursday, June 4, and not on Friday, June 5, as stated in a recent newspaper paragraph. The Wbatheb at Lyttelton.— The north-west wind of Sunday night veered into the south-west through the night, and brought with it rain, hail and sleet, with, of course, a most decided fall of the temperature. The Sheriff. — At the opening of the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court this morning, his Honor Mr Justice Denniston, in his charge to the Grand Jury, testified to the care, courtesy, and attention with which Colonel Lean had discharged the duties of Sheriff, and expressed regret that departmental reasons, entirely unconnected with his fitness for the office, had rendered it necessary to dispense with his services. The Grand Jury expressed their entire concurrence with his Honor's remarks. Vital Statistics. — The following are the vital statistics for the city of Christchurch and districtfor the month of May: — Births : City— Males 13, females 19, total 32, as against 30 for the month of May, 1090. For the district — Males 54-, females 58, total 112, aa against 122 in May, 1890; grand total 144, as againßt 152 for May, 1890. Marriages : City 19, district 11, total 30, as against 41 in May, 1890. Deaths: City— Males 7, females 10, total 17. District — Malea 13, females 11, total 24- ; grand total 41, as against 67 in Hay, 1890. Church Parade. — A church parade in connection with the Loyal Malvern Lodge, 1.G.0.F., M.U., took place on Sunday afternoon. The members of the Lodge, with j visiting brethren from the Oxford and Glentunnel Lodges, formed in procession at the district schoolroom, Waddington, and, headed by the Malvern Lodge's Brass Band, marched to the Eoad Board office, Sheffield. There was so large an attendance of the public that all could not be accommodated in the building. The service was ably conducted by the Rev J. Eapley ( Wesleyan), who based his remarks on " Unity and Sympathy," Peter i., chap, iii., v. 8. After service the members again formed in procession and marched back to Waddington, where they dispersed.
