Thib Dat. (Before B. Beetham, Esq., E.M.) Drunkenness. — Ethel Smith was fined 10s for drunkenness, and ordered to pay 2s cab hire. Alleged Labcent. — Oharleß H. Baker wbb charged with the larceny of an overcoat, value -84, the property of Alexander Worden, from the Boyal Hotel, about May 14 last. In thiß case Inspector Pender asked for a remand, which was granted until Wednesday, June 3, the accused making no objection. Alleged Assault and Bobbery, — Jameß Taylor alias Scottie alias Thompson, was oharged with assaulting Charles Hadfield, and robbing him of a watch and chain valued at £4 15s, a £1 note and half a sovereign, on the night of May 29 in Manchesterstreet. The same accused was also charged with assaulting Constable Bamsay, in the execution of his duty. Charleß Hadfield : Swore that he lived in , Sydenham, and left Burke'a Hotel at , about 11 ;15 the previous evening, to go home. Witness waa walking down Manchester etreet. When near Lee Goon's hoardinghouse, accused came out of a doorway, hit him in the eye, knocked him into the gutter, and went through him. Accused then ran away. Witness then . got up and reported the affair to Constable i Bamsay, and as he was telling him about , it accused came up. Cross-examined: When accused took the watch from him, the chain broke in half, the piece (produced) remaining fast to witness' waistcoat: When accused took the watch h. | passed it behind him to a woman who wai 1 Btanding near. Constable Bamsay swor< that when accused was arrested he close, with the witness and both fell, and in thi struggle accused kicked him on the hea< and face stunning him for a moment.
