SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting was held lust night ; present — Councillors White, Jacques, Brown, Smith, Eudd, Hopper and Gledhill. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, Councillor White was voted to the chair. An apology was also received from Councillor Langdown. An application from Mr B. Throp, the Borough Inspector, for a holiday, was granted. FINANCIAL. The Finance Committee reported receipts since last meeting, .£231 ss. The balances of all the accounts were in credit, namely : — Separate account £145 2a 9d, interest account .£277 12a 4d, loan account £7122 7s 4d, general account .£319 3s 7s. They recommended payment of £03 2s 7d for accounts and wages. The Town Clerk Bftid that summonses were now being issued for unpaid rates. The report was adopted. WALTHAM LIBRARY. Mr J. Leslie Smith wrote, stating that a deputation would wait on the Council re the Walthain Library; but, as no deputation attended, the consideration of an application to lease the building was •tal;«n. The application was made by the contractors for the erection of the new school, and they offered the Council five shillings a week for the building, which they would keep insured against the additional risk. The application was declined. Mr Smith subsequently attended and presented a petition urging upon the Council the necessity of providing the Borough with a suitable public library. The petition was referred to the Finance Committee to report upon at the next meeting. _^___________
