The Railway Strike.
General Strike Threatened. Lumpers and Federation Men. Agitation in Belgium. [bz electeic telegraph.— copyright.] [Special to Pbkss. Association.] FEeceived Jan, 19, at 8 a.m.] LONDON, Jas. 16. At a meeting o. the Directors of the various Scotch Bailway Comparties a proposal to compromise matters in connection with the strike waß declined. The men remain firm, and the Directors are also determined not to give way. Owing to the strike export shipping at Glasgow has been suspended. Three hundred coal lumpers attacked the Shipping Federation's men on board the Scotland, in the Eoyal Albert Docks. The latter fought vigorously with firearms, picks, and crowbars, finally repelling their assailants. Fortunately, no harm resulted from the shooting. f_eceived Jam 19, at 10.40 a.m.] A general strike is threatened in support of the railway men. Rioting has taken place at Glasgow. The dockers begin the work o£ organising rural labourers on Monday. [Beceived Jan. 19, at 10.15 a.m.] BRUSSELS, Jas. 18. The Belgium Government has ordered out the militia in view of the agitation among the working classes over a re-division and extension of the franchise.
