The By-laws Committee reported that, after conversation with the stationmaster, they had decided not to recommend the granting of any additional licenses to porters. The Foreman of Works 1 report was read ; it detailed how the men had been engaged during the past two weeks. The report, with the By-law Committee's, was received and adopted. The report of the Water Supply Committee was read, recommending that water be supplied to the lleatfccote residents at the charge of 43 per 1000 gallons. Thin clause brought forth considerable discussion, from which it appeared that the Committee had estimated the requirements at a million gallons per year. Eventually it was decided to adopt the clause with the addition that the supply should be limited to a million gallons per year. The second clause was to the effect that the Heathcote Koad Board bear the cost of pipes, connections, &0., which was also adopted. The report further suggested that the Orphanage should be charged at the rate of 4s per 1000 gallons for the water used at the building. This clause was allowed to stand over until the next meeting. The Colonists' Hall Committee reported that radical changes were necessary in connection with the management of the: library. For the past six years the place had cost the town, on an average, £120 per year, the greater portion of which had been spent in improving the building i self. The sum of £10 had been spent on books during the past tour years. Councillor FitzHenry, who read the report, suggested that a sum of, say £50, should be voted annually for the purchase of new books ; and after some discussion, that sum was voted for the purpose of procuring new bocks, periodicals and illustrated papers, and also for the re-binding of old books. Councillor Webb gave notice to move— " That the water main be extended along the Governor's Bay road as far as Boothman's cottage."
