Lyttelton.

[By Spinnaker Boom.]

During the paßt week very fair work has been done. J. Page and W. Wylie, the senior scullers, are hard at work, but are not, I think, up to Senior form, and when it is considered that they will have such strong opponents as Barnes and Taylor, of Kaiapoi, I am inclined to think their chance of success is not very bright. However, I hope to have opportunities of speaking out more plainly on this subject at a later period. The Harkisß Brothers intend to challenge Wylie and Page for the Senior Pairs. Tom Harkins, the veteran, who has so many time's rowed successfully for the Club, and his brother, who did so well in the junior races last year, will, I think, make a warm pair, provided they undergo the necessary amount of preparation. I remember full well the last race Harkiss, senr., rowed. It wa3 at Lyttelton, in the Senior Pairs, with Fitzsimmons, and they were defeated; I am rather inclined to think that Harkiss is past his best, but with a good lively stroke like his brother, and being possessed of the strength the pair undoubtedly have, I think they shouldjperform satisfactorily, if they do not manage to be in front at the finish. I also hear that C. C. Ward, who has rowed for the Union Club, and W. Harkiss will probably have a shot at the Senior Sculls. As they have not yet made their appearance, I must refrain from passing an opinion on them. To pass on to the Juniors. — A. Aschman and D. Page, have also been doing fair work. Like the majority of the Junior crewa turned out by Lyttelton, they are not to be passed over lightly. Bow would do better to keep his eyes in the boat, and use his back a little more, paying plenty of attention to the swing, and also to the

commencement of the stroke. They are a pair of very evenly matched young fellows, and should givo the much talked of Canterbury pair a good race. With regard to the Maidens, 1 regret to have to say that Roxby has been compelled to stop training for a while; He is confined to his room with a bad foot, consequently his chance in the Challenge Race to bo decided tomorrow, is thrown away. The race will now be between the Huston Brothers and Siretfc and Menzies, and I expect to see the Hustons win comfortably.
