Kaiapoi Woollens.
It is disappointing to hear that the experiment of selling woollens in Fr«ettade Sydney has not been a success to the Kaiapoi Company. Tho goods have established such & reputation amongst; competent judges that the disappointment is extreme. It leads to the reflection that if we cannot get an outlet for manufactures in a Freetrade country, how shall we be able to get one anywhere. The necessity for a growing foreign market for our manufactures has been long admitted by every Protectionist. The possession of the best raw material; of a superior, bright climate ,- of water admirable for the purposes of manufacture; of fuel cloae to the centres of industries; these advantages have justified the hope that our manufactures would get out into the world before long. Here is a remarkably good article, better than ia to be seen in most parts of the world : yet, with all the advantages on its side, it gets into the Sydney market and ruins the branch establishment there set up. There must be, something which requires explanation.
