OBITUARY.

ME JAMES WILKIN.

It is with sincere regret that we announce the death, this morning, of Mr James Wilkin, eldest son of the late respected Eobert Wilkin, whose name in Canterbury is a household word. Mr J. Wilkin has been the victim of a malignant disease for some time, and has been attended by three physicians, but without avail, as his cure was beyond scientific reach. Mr Wilkin was born in Tasmania, and came here as a lad with his parents. After being through Bchool and college, he was for some years engaged in the Union Bank of Australia, under Mr J. Palmer, then Manager. In 1877 he was induced to leave this engagement, a partnership in the then busy firm of Messrs B. Wilkin and Co. being offered him. Since his father's death and the consequent change of the business, Mr Wilkin has carried on an agency business on his own account, and his business tact and ability have made it a success, and it was daily improving till the illness which brought his life to a close set in. He has always taken an active part in the management of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's affairs, having been a member of the Committee since his father's decease, and he has borne his share of the work connected therewith in a cheerful manner. He also took considerable interest in the doings of the C.V.C«, of which for some years he was an active member and supporter. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
