PIGEON FLYING.
The first long-distance raco of tho season from. Oamaru was flown off on Saturday by the Christchurch Pigeon Flying Club. Twenty-five birds the pick of over fifty, started, and, sJlhough tho weather was much against fast speed, Messrs Jackman'a and Graham's tied for first place, flying tho distance, about 144 miles, in the smart time of 3br 40min, making a velocity of 1153 yds 2ft per minute. The birds were liberated by Mr G. A. Macquarie, of Oamarn, whom the Club desire to thank for attending to their wants while in training from Oamaru. The following are the velocities of the birds : —
