LIVES LOST.

A terrible calamity has occurred through the burning of a lunatic asylum at Longue Pointe. No less than a hundred and fifty of the unfortunate inmates perished in the flames.
There were thirteen hundred patients in the Longue Pointe asylum. Hundreds were paralysed by fear, and resisted the attempts to rescue them. A number of firemen were injured.
[Longue Pointe is the chief town of the Hochelaga County, Quebec, on the North shore of the St. Lawrence, six miles by rail East of Montreal.!
