ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
♦ [Pbb Pbkss Association.] NAPIER, Apbil 22. Henry Hunter, mate of the schooner Opotiki, has been missing for some days, and search has been made. To-day his ■body was found on the beach. He is supposed to have tumbled overboard when going on board the vessel. An inquest was opened to-day on the body of Frederick Hameshar, a young married man, who was killed by a fall of earth from the Bluff at the breakwater works. It was adjourned to enable the jury to visit the scene of the accident, and see whether the contractors are to blame. A few weeks ago the Herald prophesied that an accident would occur under the identical circumstances, if the method of working was not altered. Within two days three men have died suddenly at Danevirke, two in the town.efaip itself, and one in a railway train, the .man having just left. The Southland Times says s — lt appears that Poole, one of the three men who left the New River for Port Chalmers in a halfdecked boat recently, and who have not since been heard of, seems to have had some misgivings as to the safety of the craft in whioh he embarked. He told his landlady before leaving that he did not think the boat wan good enough for the trip if the weather came on bad, and he gave her his mother's address in Liverpool, telling her at the time that if she did not hear from him within two weeks she would know that something was wrong, and could write to his mother informing Her of his death.
