The Late Mbs Campbell. — The Oamaru Mail learns that the immediate cause of the death of Mrs Eobert Campbell was pleurisy and jaundice. The deceased ladyhad, however, suffered more or less for years, and there can be no question that the anxiety caused by the illness of her late husband and the shock occasioned by his death told very seriously on a constitution that was not at all strong. Mrs Campbell was remarkable for the gentleness of her disposition and the kindness of her heart, and as she was beloved by all with whom she came into contact, she will be greatly missed in the district, where she lived for 130 many years. Castaways. — News was received at Queenßtown on Feb. 24 from Vancouver Island that on Feb. 5 three Englishmen were landed there from the American ship Wanderer, which rescued them from the uninhabited island of San Alesindro, where they had been for four years. They state that in October 18S5 they took passage on the Japanese vessel Matsuo Maru, at Hakodate for Amomari, and while crossing the Straits of Issugaru a gale was encountered which blew them out of their course. For eighty days they were tossed about, and finally the vessel was driven ashore on the island of San Alesindro, and five of the crew were drowned. The vessel was patched up and left again, but as she was leaking badly the Englishmen refused to trußt themselves in her, and determined to remain on the island until some passing vessel should rescue them. The three castaways lived chiefly on fruit which grew on the island. They also caught sea-birds, and with hooks made out of part of the works of a watch succeeded in catching fish. They suffered considerable privations, especially from want oz clothing, and had all given way to despair when the Wanderer rescued them. During their stay on the island Beveral vessels passed, but not sufficiently near to notice signals. When rescued the men* presented quite a wild appearance.
