The Tongariro arrived in the harbour -about 12.20 this morning, and wa3 berthed about eight. She left London on March 6, Teneriffe March 13, tbe Cape March 28, and Hobart April IG. Excepting the unfortunate accident on March 8, by which Major-General Sir Howard Elphinstone lost his life, nothing important occurred 4uring the vo.v age, and exceptionally fine weather was experienced throughout. She brings eighty-five passengers for New Zealand, twenty-two being for Wellington and the rest for other ports. The mail is a large one, consisting of 217 bags and seventeen boxes parcels post. She experienced strong southerly gales with very heavy seas for the first three days out, when they gradually moderated nntil arrival. Passengers for Lyttelton : Misses Searle, Somerstam, and Wood, Mesdames Hartle and child, O'Malley and two children, Messra Wood, Swanbourne, Stapleton, Field, Searle, Clark, Taylor, HawJsine, Ashford, and eleven steerage. Arrived — Te Anau, from Melbourne, at 7.30 a.m. She left Williamstown at 5.30 p.m. on April 15, cleared Port Phillip Heads at 8.30 p.m., Swan Island abeam at 5.50 p.m. on April 16, and arrived at Hobart at 1.40 p.m. on April 17. Sailed again same day at 5.15 p.m., and arrived as above. Experienced moderate winds and, fine weather from Melbourne to Hobart thence fresh westerly and S.W. winds and squally weather to arrival.
