Sdpbehb CotrsT.-— Hia Honor Mr Justice ' Denniston will hold a sitting at nisi prim at 11 a.m. on Monday, when the case oi Smith v. Essery will be taken. The InißH Eiples. — This corps will hold a church parade to-morrow, at St Mary's, the foundation stone of which ia to be laid by the Most Eev Archbishop Redwood. Of course the corps can take no part in the ceremonies of the day. The Weathee.— Splendid Bhowers of rain fell in the Northern district between Thursday night and this morning, freshening up the pastures. The rain was very heavy on the hills, the ABhley river being just crossable to-day, whilst at noon yesterday there waa not a drop of water to be seen from the railway bridge. This morning there was a sharp frost. Josiah White's Arbest. — A petition has been lodged to have Josiah White, the storekeeper who was arrested at the Bluff yesterday, adjudicated a bankrupt. It is stated that some distress warrants were previously issued against him, and were returned marked "no effects " His creditors, hearing that he was about to leave the Colony, took steps to prevent him, and a warrant for his arrest was issued from the E.M. Court, and signed by Mr J. M. Batham, J.P. Sydenham Poultry Societt. — A Committee meeting of the above was held on Wednesday last, in the Rotherfield Hotel, the following members bein« present— Mr H. Smith in the chair, A. Johnstone, W. Good, J. M*Lean, A. Bobbins, G. Becks, A. Adams, W. Austin, S. Clark, F. Dacre, L. Wilson, and C. Johnstone (Secretary). The Art Union Committee reported having secured several valuable articles at a cost of ,£25, which will be further augumented at a later date. The action of the Art Union Committee was approved of. It was resolved on the motion of Mr A. Johnstone, thatattheforthcomingshowonlyone judge should officiate in each of the different varieties. The Secretary was instructed to communicate with several well-known gentlemen soliciting their services as Judges at the forthcoming show. This promises to again be a great success-, which is due, no doubt, to a great extent, to the most liberal programme issued by I thia Society, as, in addition to three five I guinea cups, the Committee do not with- ' hold the first pme money in any olas-s, even though there be only one exhibit. Members present reported having received a large number of special prizes. After dealing with matters of a routine nature the meeting adjourned. Saltwater Creek Sunday School. — The annual treat in connection with the above Sunday School was held on Friday, The weather, from a farmer's point of view, was all that could be desired, but. rather too moist for holiday making. when an adjournment was made to the schoolroom, kindly placed at their disposal by the local Committee, where a bountiful spread, consisting of tea, cakes and fruit, was partaken of. The Rev E. Tout, of Sefton, then distributed the prizes with a few suitable remarks, exhorting a mora regular attendance at school by the scholars. He was very pleased to seo so much interest taken by the parents in the Sabbath School, aa it showed that they were fully alive to the importance of procuring a religious training for their children. He eulogised the conduct of the teachers (Misses A. Wyllie, L. Thompson and E. Metcher) in devoting their time to the grand work of training the young. Tbe children contributed several musical selections during the afternoon, and about five o'clock a second service of cake, provided by. Mesdames Cameron and Banks, was handed round, and the assemblage dispersed giving three cheers for the Trustees. Haeewood Road Steam Threshing Company. — A meeting of the shareholders of the Harewood Road Steam Threshing Company was held at the Al Hotel this afternoon, to receive tbe report of the liquidators. Mr J. Donald presided, and reDorted that the plant of the Company had been sold for £70, out of which £8 had to be deducted for expenses. Mr Nunweek and himself had gone carefully through the account s,and had to report that there was .£BO 6a 4d in hand, and accounts to be paid amounting to £13 18s lOd. The balance, about .£66, would be divided among the shareholders, and it would be for the meeting to say whether this should be done by the liquidators personally. It was decided that this course should be adopted, and that the shareholders should meet at the Al Hotel, at a p.m. on Saturday, May 3, to receive the payments. Property Auction. — Messrs Miles and Co. offered Mount Possession Station to public auction at their rooms to-day, Mr J. T. Ford acting as auctioneer. The property comprises 2800 acres of freehold land, and 4900 acres of leasehold, with house, fences, &c, and 20,500 merino sheep. It was passed in at £12,000. The Rev W. S. Potter will proach at tho Cambridge terrace Church to-morrow. Morning subject, "Whole-hearted Christians ;" evening, "Peacemakers." Tho Bev W. C. OJiver, who for the past three years has been stationed in Nelson will commence his work in connection with tho Weslsyan Church in this oity to-morrow. In the morning tie will preach in the Ea»t BeltChuroii, and. in the evening at Durham street. Tho Other service in each churoh will be conducted by the Rev B. Taylor. I At Trinity Congregational Church to-morrow morning the Bev C. H. Bradbury will preach.
