ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
«. MEETING OP COUNCIL. THE ANNUAL MEETING. A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held at the Commercial Hotel at 7.30 p.m. yeetar- ! day. Present — The Hon J. T. Peacock (in the chair), Messrs W. H. Spackman, W. B. terceval, H. K. Webb, A. M. Oliivier, A. Carrick, J. Struthera Williams, W. T. Cbarlewood, A. W. G. Meddings, W. F. Warner, J. H. Baker, G. King, Professor Haslarn, Dr3 Anderson and Moorhouse, and Mr S. C. Farr (Secretary.) After the minutes of the last meeting had been read, Mr Spackman said that they were not correct, inasmuch as his denial of a statement that he had adviaed the Secretary that he had no power to gazette the regulations for the netting of trout in, the lakes was not recorded. After some conversation the minutes were altered as required by Mr Spackman. Mr Perceval moved — " That these minute 3be confirmed, but that this Council places on record its dissent from the ruling of the Chairman, that a resolution pa&sed at a previous meeting can be rescinded without notice." After some discussion, Mr Perceval agreed to give notice of his motion, and tbo minutes were confirmed. The Chairman (read a letter, which apologised for Dr Frankish's absence, replied to the remarks of Messrs Spackman and Charlewood, and stated that the doctor would not seek re-election on the Council. On the motion of Mr Spackman, seconded by Mr J. S. Williams, the letter was referred to the next Council. The Council then proceeded to settle the list of members entitled to vote. Mr Spackman said he wished to add to the list the names of a number of gentlemen whoße subscriptions he was prepared to pay at the present meeting. The President and Messrs Perceval and Farr objected to taking names at the last moment. Professor Haslam moved and Mr J. S. Williams seconded — "That the subccriptionß be received to-night." After some further discussion the motion was carried. Mr Spackman then handed in JE3G 4s, representing sixty-four memboca at five shillings each, and nineteen subscribers of one guinea each. The list was agreed upon* and the Council adjourned.
