DRAINAGE BOARD.

ORDINAEY MEETING. An ordinary meeting-of theChriatchurch District Drainage Board was held at 2.30 p.m. yesterday; present— Messrs J. Deans (Chairman), J."W. M'Alpine, J. H. Hopkins, W. H. Stevens, H. Bonningtoa, -J. Bowman, and C. J. Mountfort. An apology was made for the absence of Mr Crooks. BBPOETS. The Engineer reported that the repairs to the storm- water sewer in Madras Btreet had been satisfactorily completed, and that there was no sign of the damage extending. He hoped that the sewer might stand in its present state for some time to come. The report was approved. The Secretary and Treasurer presented the following report: — Amount of rate 3 received since last meeting, £1744 17s 2d ; received from other sources, £78 3s 9d; expenditure since last meeting (rate account), £319 11s 4d; amount of 1887 rates outstanding, £106 Oa lid; amount of 1888 rates outstanding, £120 193 Id ; amount of 1889 ratea collected to date, £8289 193 4d; amount of Bank overdraft, £6689 133 lOd. Statmemt of rates collected and outstanding in oaoh district to date.

CORRESPONDENCE. The Sydenhain Borongh Council wrote agreeing to accept the Board's offer of £25 towards the cost of laying the main sewer in Qaeen street. The letter was received. A letter was read from the Heathcote Road Board, stating that, taking into consideration the price that land around the Drainage Eeserve had been sold for they could not Bee their way to make any reduction in the valuation of tho Board's property. There v/as also a doubt whether they had pov/er to do ao. Instructions had been given to get in the outstanding rates. The letter suggested that .£22 Is 9d of the 1888 rates bo written off. Mr Hopkins thought that the Heathcote Road Board should;be specially written to asking them to take immediate steps to collect tho large balance of 1887 ratca (J666) outstanding. After some discussion, the Secretary waa instructed to write to the Board asking if fhe necessary 3egal proceedings had been taken to recover tho balance in question. It waß decided to write off the uncollected balance of 1888 rates aa requested. WOKKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committeo reported that they had accepted the tender of Messrs Taylor and Oakley, the only one received, for sinking a deep well ab the Pumping Station, for the sum of £60. The report was approved. ACCOUNTS. Accounts Amounting to £319 11s 4d were passed for payment. THE BALANCE- SHEET. Mr Hopkins moved, pursuant to notice, a motion to tho effect that the balancesheet for 1889 should show in receipts account the amount of rates received from each district in one column, other receipts from each district in a second column, and the debit balance, if any, to each district in a third column ; that in the expenditure account the amount charged to each district on Loan and Sinking Fund account should appear in one column ; the net amount expended for works on. account of each district in a second column ; that the portion charged to each district for pumping station and farm account (if any), official and other charges to each district, and tho credit balance to each district should each be shown in separate columns ; that the sewage farm account should show the total value of stock and plant on Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, and the total receipts and the total expenditure for the year. Mr M'Alpine seconded the motion pro forma. ! After some conversation the motion was lost, the mover alone voting for it. J The Board then adjourned.
