On Sunday his Lordship Bishop Harper neld divine Bervice in St George's Church. His Lordship conducted the whole of the service, with the exception of the lessons, which were read by Mr T. H. Anson, and preached an impressive sermon from Hebrews xii., 1-4. Mrs Eoe presided afc the harmonium, Hia Lordship is the gueat of Colonel Tossvrill during hia stay at Kirwee, and waa driven by that gentle-, man to West Helton in the morning, where he conducted the service, and celebrated Holy Communion. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. On Monday evening the School Committee held a special meeting ; present—. Messrs Anderson (Chairman), Laurey, Dirayton and Croskill. Three appJications for the post of mistress were received froJUj the Board of Education, and one was selected. The master reported that the attendance continued to bo very satisfactory. Accounts were passed and the meeting adjourned. MEDICAL. A meeting was held on Honcuv afternoon at tho Kirwee Hotel, for tho purpose oi devising ways and means to secure a medical practitioner in the district. Mr T. H. Anson occupied the chair. The room waa full, and surrounding districts ! were well represented. A telegram was read from Dr Westenra, stating he could not leave Lincoln. The Chairman and Messrs Gough, AdatnSj C. L. Daviea, Davies, M'Nao and others addressed the meeting, and a long discussion ensued. The following resolution was carried unanimously — "That representatives of each school district should elect delegates: where the roll number was over fifty, three delegates; under fifty, two delegates — to form a Committee to confer together, and take necessary steps to secure the services of a medical practitioner for the Courtenay Eoad Board district, and meet at the next Darfield sale day, Nov. 15, at 2.30 p.m.," Mr S. E. Anderson was appointed interim Secretary. StOETS. The annual meeting of the Eirwee Athletic Sports Committee waß held in the Kirwee Hotel on Saturday last, Mr A. Sandison in the chair. The meeting was well attended. Tho Secretary read his report and balance-sheet, showing receipts J236 3s; expenditure, £31 23; balance in hand, Is. The Secretary reported that the new track was finished. The Secretary was requested to ask Mr A. Saunders, M.H.E., to become Patron of the Club. The following officers and Committee were elected: —Mr James Gough, President; Messrs Anson, Knight, Brabazon, M'Lennan and Kemp, Vice-Presidents ; Committee — Messrs Bean, Belgrave, Bowers, T. Oater, T. Fairbairn, Gill, Harwood, Murdoch, D. M'Beath, D. C. M'Beath, o'Malley,Eobertson, A. Simpson, Sandison, Smith, Speight, and Eoper Eamsay. Messrs Laurey and Anderson were re-elected Hon Treasurer and Secretary. It was resolved not to alloT/handicappers to compete in any race, handicap orotherwise. Mr Eamsay promised to try and obtain music for sports day. A hearty vote of thanks to the outgoing Committee was carried by acclamation, and a special one to the handicappers. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. '
