In addressing his constituents at St Leonard's, last night, Sir Henry Parke3 delivered a powerful speech in support of hiß Federation proposals. In referring to the obstacles, respecting the tariff, he said the question ought not to be considered in attempting to bring about Federation. Tho subject of Freetrade and Protection was trivial, as compared with the necessity, grandeur, and duty of giving Australia an Australian Government. He contended that, despite every misunderstanding between the Colonies on other matters, there was a true and genuine feeling of sympathy with each other in the establishment of a | Dominion. He announced that, owing to the early meeting of Parliament, the Government found they could not be officially represented at the New Zealand Exhibition.
