THE TAILORS' UNION.
Trinity Hall was crowded to excess laat evening: at the meeting of the TaUors, Tailoresses, and Pressors' Union. The tailoreases were very largely in the majority, and tho total attendance numbered 600. Mr F. S. Parker presided. Correspondence and telegrams wero read from other Unions, offering monetary assistance to the hands out on strike sfc the Kaiapoi Pactory. The offers wortaccepted, and votes of thanks accorded to thoso sending tbem. It was decided to appeal to the public for subscriptions to aid the strikers. The two delegates appointed to attend the meeting of representatives from the various trades at the conference held last Saturday in reference to the formation of a Trades and Labour Council, gave in their report. It recommended that the Union should associate itself with the movement. The meeting approved of the action of the delegates, and adopted their report. It was Btatod that the members on strike were determined to keep together till their demands were conceded, and to patiently wait for the remainder of their fellow-workers ;._ the Faotory to come out on Thuredny night. About a dozen employees of the Kaiapoi Factory who had formerly held aloof from the Union were admitted as i members. Representatives from the Bootmakers' Union wore present, and spoko encouragingly and promised support to those on stride. The Secretary reported that he had telegraphed to the various Unions throughout New Zealand and tho Australian Colonies proclaiming tbat a strike had taken place. Two favourable replies had already been received, but thore had not yet been time for most of those communicated with to consider the matter and forward replies. The meeting then adjourned. The Dunedin Operative Bootmakers' Union has voted _S3O to assist those on strike in connection with the Kaiapoi Clothing Factory, Christchurch, aud will consider the question of further assistance. The Tailoresses' Union haa decided to give i. 20 towards the same object, nnd :ilso to • make a weekly levy of 10 per coij-t on tlie wages of all workers in the Union, to be continued till the strike is settled.
