The Council proceeded to consider the Estimates, which were passed with the addition of -ioO for widening Ward street, Councillors Muffett and Jacques protesting against this on the ground that it was purely for the beueiit of private individuals. THE FOLLUTRD MILK WALK. The Inspector of Nuisances reported that, as instructed, be had seen the owner of the dairy complained of. He promised that he would immediately alter the premises so as not to endanger health, by turning the flow from the well so that it will not pass near the piggery, cowshed, &c. He proposes to run the water for the cattle on the other eide of the paddock, while for the drainage of the piggery, &c, he will sink a tank, and empty it on the land. These alterations being effected, the Inspector considered they wonld be satisfactory. This report being addressed and made to the Sanitary Committe was only read and referred to them to see that the required alterations < were effected and report at next meeting. LINCOLN BOAD CROSSING. On the motion of Councillor T. E. Taylor, it was decided that a resolution defining the position of the new lamp at the corner of Hazeldean and Lincoln roads be rescinded, with a view, of having it erected as desired by the Biccarton Boad Board, on the Biccarton side of the road. HOSPITAL AND CHABITABLB AID BILL. The Council then proceeded to discuss the provisions of this new Bill. Mr Allison read a lengthy statement of the many objectionable features of the Bill, which so fully dealt with it that the Council unanimously decided to ask him to forward his notes to the member for Sydenham, with a reqnest that he oppose the measure as injurious, impolitic and inexpedient. The Town Clerk in promising to do this referred to the leading article in Tuesday's Lyttelton Times, which he was good enough, to say was "an extremely practical one." Councillor Taylor considered Mr Allison's notes would form matter for a speech for his worthy namesake. HIOH PBBSSTJBB WATER SUPPLY. Councillor Booth presented a report of the Water Supply Committee which has laid on the Council table for sometime and already been published. It suggested that steps be taken to bring about the necessary provision for a water supply of a good character. He was desirous that the Council should express their opinion before the Committee went into the details of an elaborate scheme. Councillor White said, though he would like to see an efficient water supply, he did not advocate going into an expensive scheme. Subsequently the matter was shelved till next meeting, three of the Councillors having been compelled to leave. THE SWIMMING- BATH. The Fire Prevention Committee also reported on the terms to be carried out in connection with the construction of the proposed swimming bath, and recommended that upon the proposals being ratified by the Board of Education, steps be at once taken in accordance with " The Public Works Act, 1882," to sell the land laid out as a road to the school grounds. Councillor White objected to the Council having to pay half the cost of the bath, provide a caretaker, &c, and allow the bath to be closed to the public daring the whole time the children were in school. He could not move an amendment because he had no supporters, but he desired to express his opinion that the interests of the public were not being conserved sufficiently. The protest was recorded on the minutes, and the further consideration of the report was held over till another meeting. THB SHOW GROUNDS. The report of the Special Committee on the purchase of the old Show Grounds was also postponed till another meeting. NOTICES OP MOTION.
