The first ordinary meeting of the Board was held on May 3 ; present— -Messrs J. M. Booth, H. Englebrecht, W. Ryde and P. Wright.— Mr Wright moved—" That Mr Ryde take the chair." Seconded by Mr Englebrecht and carried unanimously.— lt was decided that Messrs Booth and Englebrecht retire next May. — The Surveyor's report was read and considered, and several small works were ordered to be done. — Mr Jeffs waited on the Board in reference to payment for small piece of land acquired from him by the Board. — He was informed that the plan, &c, had been sent to the solicitors, and as soon as the transfer was completed he would receive the balance of the purchase money. He also asked the Board to erect the fence as previously agreed upon. The Surveyor was instructed to get the work done. He also asked the Board to repair the bank to drain near his property. The Surveyor to inspect and report. — Correspondence was read stating that the accounts wovdd probably be audited towards the end of the month. — From Messrs Packe and Anson, re conveyance of road on terrace, requesting that the matter be left in abeyance at present. Received. — From Mr A. Wright, resigning his office as poimdkeeper at View Hill. The Clerk was instructed to call for applications for the office by next meeting of the Board. — Prom the Railway Engineer, re drains, the Surveyor to inspect, and forward any suggestions he may consider advisable. — Prom Bame department, re crossing to gravel reserve with estimated cost of same. Resolved to have the work done, — From Mr J. D. Milton, complaining of no notice having been taken of his application to bave the road near Ashley formed and shingled. The Clerk was instructed to write and appoint a day to meet Mr Milton on the ground. — The tender of Mr Cowens was accepted for the Reserve at Carlton, and Mr M'Donald for that on M'Phedron's road. — The tenders for the varions contracts were then opened, and one in each case accepted. — Resolved — " That tbe Chairman and Mr Engelbrecht sign cheques for the month." — Mr P. Wright referred to the question of increasing theTllork's salary. Mr Engelbrecht moved — " That the Clerk's salary be raised to £150 a year." Seconded by Mr "Wright and carried unanimously. — Resolved — " That in futuro the ordinary monthly meeting of tbe Board Bhould be held on the first Wednesday in each month at the usual ;hour." — The meeting then adjourned.
