£Pbr Press Association.] THE BOOTMAKEPvS' STRIKE. ; ASOTHEE INSURANCE LIBEL CASE. WELLINGTON, Jan. 14. The bootmakers' strike has been settled "bythe mediation of the Federated Trades Council. The men hare resumed work. Another insurance libel " case began this morning, M. C. Hickey, canvasser, suing I>. M. Luckie, Commissioner of the Governmentlnsurance Association, for £600. damages for accusing him of appropriating » promissory note given by one Hogg in payment of a premium, and threatening to put the matter in the hands of the police if the money -eras not paid. The defence is a general denial. Plaintiff, in evidence, said it was against the instructions of the department to take promissory notes, and that, to accelerate the transaction with Hogg, he agreed to pay the letter's premium himself if Hogg gave him a promissory note. It was purely a private matter between them.
