The Maori football team won the match against the Midland Counties team by three goals and a trj to nil, Oct. 22. In the match, Maori football team againßt Middlesex, the latter won by two goals and three tries to nil. MR BALFOUR IN IRELAND. OCX. 21. The Right Hon J. B. Balfour, Chief Secretary for Ireland, is visiting Dublin, where he is protected by an unusually strong escort. A MISSION ABANDONED. The mission of Mr H. M. Durand, Foreign Secretary to the Government of India, to Afghanistan, has been abandoned. A NEW MARQUIS. The Earl of Dufferin has been created a Marquis. UNITED STATES CONGRESS. WASHINGXO I *, OCT. 21. Congress was prorogued to-day. A measure has been passed excluding all Chinese labourers from the States, whether merely intending to pass through the country or otherwise.
