The Fatal Accident at Lyttelton.
» THE INQUEST. As reported in our columns yesterday, the stevedore, Charles Demicheli, was* killed by his fall in the hold of the Arawa. An enquiry waa held in the evening, before R. Beetham, Esq., Coroner, and a Jury, of whom Mr Schmidt was chosen Foreman. After a short deliberation, the Jury returned a verdict of •' Accidental death," and added the following rider :— " That the attention of the Company be called to the. fact that, as the precautions against accident now existing on board the s.s. Arawa are not sufficient, the Jury recommend that netting or life-lines should be fitted to each hatch to prevent farther accidents while the men are at work. At the same time, the Jury wish to etate that no negligence is attributable to the officers or the stevedore, Mr Adams."
