The Sutherland Waterfall.
EiETUSN OF THE SURVEYS PATCTY. [Feb Fbxbs Association.] WELUNQTON, Oct. 28. Mr J. C. M'Kerrow, Surveyor-General, thi» morning received a telegram from Mr •C. W. Adams, Chief-Surveyor ofOfca'go, stating that the latter gentleman Had just returned from his visit to the great Sutherland waterfall. Mr Adams reports that the' fall is 1904 ft high, with a volume of water equal to the Bowen fall at Mildford Sound. The water strike.? a cook precipice twice in its descent, forming "three leaps; the upper one being 815 ft high; the middle 751 ft, and the lower 338 ft. Mr Adams states that tbe surroundings are picturesque, aad that thiß adds another to the many beautiful scenes of New Zealand. Mr M'Kinnon, -who' haa been, employed by the Survey Department, reports that he has found a practicable pass from Lake Te Anan to Milford Sound. DUNEDIN, Oct. 28. Mr Adam, Chief Surveyor, and party . returned from Milford Sound this morning, the expedition having Jbeen a great success. The- Sutherland" Falls are^So4ft high, and ! are . a grand sight.
