AT THE NEW HEBRIDES.
BYDN.Br, fczPl. 21. One of the crew of the barquentme Hector, from Port Sarding, New Hebrides, who had been detained ashore for misbehaviour, plunged into the sea, to swim off as the vessel was sailing, and was fired at from the shore, but without effect. Those on board the vessel returned the fire, but no casualties are repotted. It is not known whether the firing party ashore were whites or Natives. TEEKIFIC THUNDERSTORM AT SYDNEY. A fierce thunderstorm passed over the city to-day. Wimble's warehouse and the National Bank were both struck by lightning. The flag 1 poles on the top of the latter building were shattered, but no serious injury was done. During the storm an immense quantity of rain fell, and considerable damage was done to stores in low-lying buildings by floods. [Pick Press Association.]
