GERALDINE.
The weather in the district has been variable- during the early part of the week, but on Thursday last a downpour of rain .set in, lasting continuously up to Saturday afternoon, when onr correspondent's despatch left. All the rivers in the district are in flood, the highest known for some years past, the Waohi especially. A few years ago an embankment was erected where the river encroached during a_ igh flood, opposite the Cemetery road, and several willow-stakes planted in front of it as a further protection. The water his now risen and is flowing up to this enbankment, but the latter shows no signs of any part of it washing away. A part of the breakwater, erected by Mr R. Morrißon. to protect his land, has been undermined, -. and theclay cliff is breaking away. There tare no signs>of the weather clearing up.
