PACIFIC CABLE SURVEY.
MEiiBOUBNE, AUGUST 10. The Premier, Mr Gillies, has interviewed Admiral Fairfax, with the object of urging him to lay before the LorcU of the Admiralty the desirableness of expediting a snrvey for tfce Pacific cable. The Admiral replied to the effect that although _ the number of surveying vessels ia limited, lie thought two or three might be spared if the Imperial Government could be convinced of the urgency of the matter.
[Pbe, Press Assocution.] INVEECAEGILL POULTRY SHOW. INVEECABGHLIi, August 10. The second show of the Poultry Association, which waa opened to-day, showed a great advance In number and excellence of exhibits over last year. The champion prize of five guineas for the best rooster of any breed, open to the Colony, waB won by A. N. Lindsay, -with a light Brahma bird, | •which arrived from Wellington this morning. There was a better locally-bred bird, but the owner had not entered him.
